William C. Carithers, Jr., senior staff physicist at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and visiting scientist at Fermilab, currently serves, with Giorgio Bellettini, as spokesperson for CDF, the Collider Detector at Fermilab collaboration. He has held this position since January 1993. Dr. Carithers did his undergraduate work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After receiving a Ph.D. in physics from Yale University in 1968, he accepted positions as research associate (1968-70) and assistant professor of physics (1970-73) at Columbia University. He subsequently joined the faculty of Rochester University as assistant professor of physics (1973-75). In 1975, Dr. Carithers joined the staff of Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. Dr. Carithers was a Sloan Fellow from 1972 to 1974.

In January 1995, Giorgio Bellettini was elected by the CDF collaboration to serve as spokesperson with William Carithers. Dr. Bellettini, a visiting scientist at Fermilab, is one of the original members of the CDF collaboration and has led the Italian group collaborating in the experiment since 1980. Dr. Bellettini received his degree in physics at Pisa in 1957. He became a full professor in general physics in 1979. He served as director of the National Laboratories of Frascati of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics of Italy (INFN) from 1974 to 1976. He served on the Program Advisory Committee of INFN from 1971 to 1974 and from 1985 to 1991. He was appointed a member of the Scientific Policy Committee of CERN in June 1992.
