To be considered for the fellowship, candidates must follow the application procedure.

The candidate's application package will include:
- A cover letter outlining the candidates desire to apply for the fellowship and a brief description of their qualifications.
- A research statement focusing on their proposed research at Fermilab.
- A CV describing the candidate's research history and detailing their leadership and technical skills and the results of their research.
The CV should also include a list of relevant publications if available.
- Between 3 and 5 letters of recommendation from people who can speak best to the candidate's qualifications.
